The Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014, is the world's largest inland delta — 15,000km² of crystal channels, papyrus islands, and floodplains in the heart of Botswana's Kalahari Desert. Each year, 11 trillion litres of water flow in from Angola's highlands, transforming the desert into one of Africa's richest wildlife ecosystems.
Accessible only by light aircraft, the Delta's private concessions offer some of the most exclusive safari experiences on Earth. From mokoro canoe glides through lily-covered channels to tracking lions on Chief's Island, the Okavango delivers a diversity of safari activities found nowhere else — all in a wilderness that feels like the edge of the known world.
Nearly every Delta camp is accessible only by light aircraft from Maun or Kasane — no roads, no self-drivers, no crowds. This fly-in model keeps the wilderness pristine and the experience intimate.
Peak flood (Jun–Aug) for the best mokoro and water activities — the Delta at its most magical. Dry season (Sep–Oct) for concentrated Big 5 game viewing. Green season (Nov–Mar) offers lush birdlife, calving, and the best rates.
The Okavango pairs beautifully with Chobe National Park (1hr flight), Victoria Falls (short flight to Kasane), Cape Town, and the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans — making it the centrepiece of any Southern Africa journey.
